Several senior officials in Mitooma District have been arrested over allegations of corruption and abuse of office linked to a district recruitment exercise.
Those arrested include Joanita Nakityo, Sadic Mugisha, Sam Karakuza Tugume, and Richard Nabimanya.
According to preliminary investigations, the officials are suspected to have interfered with the district recruitment process by influencing candidate scores and leaking interview questions to favored applicants.
Investigators also allege that the chairperson of the Mitooma District Service Commission extorted money from job seekers in exchange for promises of employment. The suspected payments reportedly ranged between UGX 7 million and UGX 25 million.
Authorities say the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to crack down on corruption in public service recruitment processes.
The case has sparked concern among residents and job seekers in the district, with many calling for thorough investigations and accountability to ensure fairness and transparency in public sector employment.
