The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance has initiated a laptop distribution campaign aimed at strengthening the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.

The launch event, held on Tuesday this week, in Kampala, marked a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize and streamline PDM activities.

Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, presided over the ceremony and emphasized the importance of digitization in enhancing the effectiveness of the PDM program.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Zawedde remarked, “Today, we gather for the auspicious occasion of the laptop handover ceremony, symbolizing a pivotal moment in our journey towards digitizing and optimizing Parish Development Model operations.”

The PDM initiative has already made substantial strides, with over 22.8 million Ugandans from 7.8 million households enrolled in the program. Additionally, it has facilitated the establishment of 10,594 PDM Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) and supported 157,006 enterprise groups across the country.

The distribution of laptops to PDM coordinators and officials is expected to bolster data management, monitoring, and coordination efforts at the grassroots level. By equipping stakeholders with the necessary digital tools, the government aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability within the PDM framework, ultimately driving socio-economic development at the parish level.

The laptop distribution initiative underscores the government’s commitment to harnessing technology for inclusive growth and community empowerment. Through the integration of digital solutions into the PDM program, Uganda is poised to accelerate progress towards its development objectives and improve the livelihoods of its citizens.

As the laptop distribution campaign gains momentum, stakeholders are optimistic about the transformative impact it will have on the implementation of the Parish Development Model, paving the way for more efficient and impactful grassroots development initiatives.
