Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, met a tragic end in a helicopter crash in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. The crash site was located after a challenging search amid adverse weather conditions.

The news sent shockwaves across the globe, prompting heartfelt condolences from world leaders. Among them was India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed profound sadness at Raisi’s untimely demise. Modi described Raisi as a significant contributor to strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Iran.

In a social media post, Modi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Raisi’s family and the people of Iran, affirming India’s solidarity during this period of mourning.

President Raisi’s sudden death has left a void in Iranian politics. As a prominent figure representing conservative and hardline factions, Raisi had served as president for nearly three years and was poised for a potential re-election bid next year. With a background as a former chief justice, Raisi was also viewed as a potential successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader.

The tragic helicopter crash has not only claimed the lives of prominent Iranian officials but also cast a pall of sorrow over the international community, as leaders and citizens alike mourn the loss of a respected figure in global politics.
