The Confederation of African Football (CAF), in collaboration with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), has rolled out the Safe Stadium Initiative Training Programme.

This three-day event, held at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, from November 19th to 21st, 2024, aims to align Uganda’s stadium safety protocols with global standards and enhance match-day experiences for fans and stakeholders alike.

The initiative prioritizes safety and professionalism, equipping participants with practical tools to tackle real-world challenges. Activities such as emergency scenario simulations, risk assessment drills, and access control exercises are tailored to address issues unique to African stadiums. These measures aim to create a safe and secure environment that boosts fan confidence and encourages greater attendance at football events.

Led by distinguished experts, including CAF Head of Safety and Security Dr. Christian Emeruwa and FIFA Safety and Security Event Operations Specialist Katherina Steinberg, the programme emphasizes adherence to international guidelines while addressing local needs. Participants, drawn from FUFA members, local security agencies, and Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs, are being trained to cultivate a culture of professionalism in stadium management.

FUFA President Moses Magogo praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform the football experience in Uganda. “A secure stadium environment is essential for the growth of football. This program reflects our commitment to fostering trust and ensuring that every fan, player, and stakeholder feels safe during matches,” he said.

As the training progresses, participants will gain hands-on experience and insights into effective stadium operations. The program will culminate in a closing ceremony, where certificates of completion will be awarded, marking a new chapter in Uganda’s commitment to elevating its football infrastructure.

The Safe Stadium Initiative is a milestone for Ugandan football, signaling a brighter future where safety and enjoyment go hand in hand. By setting a new standard, FUFA, supported by CAF and FIFA, is laying the groundwork for a secure and thriving football culture in Uganda and beyond.
