Musician Patrick Mulwana, better known as Alien Skin, and his bodyguard Julius Mugabi, alias Julio, have been granted cash bail of UGX 1 million each by a Kampala court.

The two are accused of theft and assault in connection with an alleged altercation involving staff of Nsambya Hospital.

Alien Skin faces charges of stealing an iPhone 15 Pro, UGX 480,000, and assaulting three hospital staff members, incidents that have sparked widespread public interest. Each of their sureties was bonded at UGX 5 million not cash.

In his ruling, the magistrate emphasized the importance of observing bail conditions, including a requirement for both accused to seek court permission before traveling outside the country. They are also prohibited from contacting or approaching the complainants, a move aimed at protecting the integrity of the case.

The hearing has been scheduled for January 13, 2025, giving both parties time to prepare their cases.

Alien Skin, a controversial figure in Uganda’s music industry, has faced legal battles before, with his supporters arguing that his popularity makes him a target for disputes. Outside court, a small group of fans and sympathizers gathered to show their support, chanting songs in solidarity.

The musician has yet to comment publicly on the bail decision, but his legal team has expressed optimism about the upcoming trial. Meanwhile, public reaction to the case continues to unfold, with some highlighting it as a reflection of increasing celebrity accountability, while others see it as a high-profile example of societal inequalities in the legal system.

As Alien Skin prepares to face the January hearing, the court’s strict conditions underscore the gravity of the charges and the legal scrutiny surrounding the case.
