China Town, a popular supermarket chain in Kampala, has expanded its footprint with the grand opening of a new store at Akamwesi Mall along the Kampala-Gayaza Road.

The launch, which took place on Thursday, drew a large crowd eager to take advantage of special discounts and promotional offers.

During the ceremony, Kawempe Division Resident City Commissioner, Hajji Noor Njuki Mbabali, praised the supermarket for its contribution to Uganda’s economy through job creation and affordable pricing. “Such investors who not only provide employment for Ugandans but also sell products at lower prices are what the country needs. We need to support them,” Mbabali remarked.

Officials from China Town Supermarket revealed that the new store will offer a diverse range of products, including household essentials, electronics, fashion items, and groceries. The affordability of these products has been a major draw for shoppers, evident in the overwhelming turnout at the grand opening. Customers flooded the store, eager to take advantage of the discounted items, creating an atmosphere of excitement throughout the event.

The Akamwesi Mall branch becomes China Town’s second store in Kampala, following the success of its first outlet at Lugogo Shopping Mall, which opened last year. With this expansion, the supermarket aims to reach a broader customer base while maintaining its reputation for affordability and variety.

As competition in Kampala’s retail sector continues to grow, China Town’s strategic expansion highlights the increasing demand for accessible and budget-friendly shopping options. The new store is expected to serve thousands of customers in the surrounding areas, further strengthening the supermarket’s presence in Uganda’s retail industry.
