President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday held high-level talks with the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, H.E. Qu Dongyu, at State House Entebbe, focusing on Uganda’s agri-food system transformation and deeper collaboration in sustainable agriculture and food security.

In a meeting hailed as productive and forward-looking, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni welcomed H.E. Qu Dongyu, the Director General of the FAO, to State House Entebbe. The President reaffirmed that agriculture remains the cornerstone of Uganda’s economic strategy, pointing out the importance of transforming agri-food systems to support income generation, food security, and better nutrition.

President Museveni commended FAO’s efforts in supporting national agricultural goals and emphasized the importance of adopting modern farming practices to meet the country’s growing food and export demands. He also highlighted the government’s interest in strengthening systems that ensure income security and household resilience through nutrition and hygiene education.

H.E. Dongyu lauded Uganda for its continued partnership with the FAO and reiterated the organization’s dedication to backing Uganda’s investment agenda in agriculture. He noted Uganda’s potential for rapid growth, citing its fertile land, youthful population, and commitment to structural transformation.

The FAO Director General was accompanied by a top-level delegation, including Mr. Maximo Torero (Chief Economist), Mr. Abebe Haile Gabriel (Assistant Director-General and Africa Representative), Ms. Lineo Molise (Regional Coordinator for Africa), and Mr. Shen Hong (Assistant to the Director General), all of whom expressed readiness to scale up support for Uganda’s agricultural development.

This renewed partnership is expected to yield concrete programs focusing on climate-resilient agriculture, agri-tech, rural development, and smallholder farmer empowerment — all key to Uganda’s journey toward food sovereignty and rural prosperity.
