The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has endorsed the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, and her Deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, to continue serving as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament for another term.

The decision was taken during a CEC sitting held today at State House, Entebbe.
The endorsement clears the way for Among and Tayebwa to retain the top leadership positions in the 11th Parliament, reinforcing continuity in parliamentary leadership under the ruling party’s dominance.

Anita Among has served as Speaker since 2022, while Tayebwa has been her deputy, steering key legislative business and parliamentary reforms.

NRM insiders say the endorsement reflects the party’s confidence in the duo’s leadership, management of parliamentary affairs, and ability to navigate often contentious political debates in the House.

The endorsement by the CEC is a critical internal party step ahead of formal processes in Parliament, where the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected by Members of Parliament.
