Authorities in Lamwo District have begun a verification and recovery exercise targeting beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) who received funds during the 2022/2023 financial year.
The exercise aims to strengthen accountability and recover any public resources that may have been mismanaged under the government’s flagship poverty alleviation initiative.
The move follows a directive from the National PDM Focal Person instructing accounting officers, Resident District Commissioners, Chief Administrative Officers and other government officials across the country to verify beneficiary records and reclaim funds where misuse is identified.
According to William Komakech, district leaders have already met with parish SACCO executives to begin documenting beneficiaries and reviewing the use of the funds.
Komakech said the verification process will assess repayment under the revolving fund system and confirm that beneficiaries invested the money in approved income-generating enterprises as required by the programme guidelines.
Beneficiaries have been urged to cooperate with parish chiefs, SACCO leaders and district officials during the verification process.
Meanwhile, Chuna Moses Kapolon revealed that more than UGX 50 million is still pending final processing and verification before it can be disbursed to beneficiaries.
Authorities have warned that individuals found to have misused the funds could be required to refund the money or face arrest under government regulations governing the programme.
