From the streets of Wau to recording studios across East Africa, Diaem Loy’s journey is not just about music it is about growth, identity, and the relentless pursuit of a dream. Born Maverick Kero Richard Riiny, the South Sudanese artist is quietly carving out a sound that blends cultures, experiences, and ambition into something uniquely his own.

Long before the microphones, studios, and recorded tracks, there was movement.
In Wau, where he spent much of his childhood, a young Diaem Loy found his first connection to the world of performance not through singing, but through dance. At just 12 years old, he joined a dance crew made up of friends and siblings an energetic collective bound by creativity and shared passion. It was here, in informal rehearsals and lively performances, that he first understood rhythm, timing, and the power of expression.

The stage, even in its simplest form, became familiar.
Dance gave him more than entertainment—it gave him confidence. It taught him how to face an audience, how to communicate without words, and how to belong in a creative space. But even then, something deeper was beginning to form.

By the age of 13, that inner spark began to shift direction.
While he remained inspired by the energy of performance, Diaem Loy grew increasingly drawn to music particularly the sounds of pop and R&B. Yet it was rap that truly captured his imagination. There was something about its freedom, its storytelling, and its raw honesty that resonated with him.

He began writing.
At first, it was experimental lines scribbled down, ideas explored in private moments. But over time, his writing became more intentional. He practiced verses, refined his delivery, and slowly began to understand his own voice. It was a process of self-discovery, one that unfolded quietly during his middle school years.

At 14, life took him to Juba, South Sudan’s capital a move that would significantly shape his journey.
Enrolling at Kings Academy, Diaem Loy entered an environment where creativity was not just accepted but encouraged. The school’s culture of extracurricular engagement provided him with something every young artist needs: a platform.
Every two weeks, the school came alive with activity debates, sports, cultural showcases, and entertainment programs. These were not just events; they were opportunities. Opportunities to perform, to be seen, and to be heard.

Diaem Loy seized them.
He began recording his first songs leaning into pop and R&B influences and performing them during school showcases. The response was immediate. Students connected with his sound. Teachers took notice of his confidence. Each performance built his belief, reinforcing the idea that music was not just a passion, but a path.

As his ambition grew, so did his journey.
In 2024, Diaem Loy moved to Uganda, marking the beginning of a new phase one that would take him beyond familiar territory and into a broader creative landscape. It was here that he recorded My Custom Made, a project that signaled both growth and intent.
But he didn’t stop there.

In 2025, he recorded Through the Storm, a track that reflected both personal and artistic maturity. Around the same time, he collaborated with Ugandan artist and producer Jeff Hanns on Big Brand, a song written by both artists and produced at MGD Music Studio. The collaboration not only expanded his network but also introduced new dimensions to his sound.
His journey continued to stretch across borders.
Later that year, he traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, where he recorded Beyond Plain Sight at Rap Capital Records another milestone in a career steadily gaining direction and depth.
Crafting a Signature Sound
With each new experience, Diaem Loy began to refine something essential: identity.

Rather than confining himself to a single genre, he embraced experimentation. His music evolved into a fusion blending the energy of Electronic Dance Music (EDM), the rhythm of Afrobeats, and subtle elements of traditional South Sudanese sound.
It was not just about making music it was about creating something that reflected who he was and where he came from.

This fusion became his signature.
It allowed him to stand at the intersection of global and local influences, bridging cultures through sound. His music carries both the pulse of modern trends and the echoes of heritage a balance that gives his work authenticity and depth.

An Artist Still Becoming

Today, Diaem Loy stands as part of a new generation of South Sudanese artists—young, ambitious, and unafraid to explore beyond boundaries.
His journey is still unfolding. Each song, each collaboration, each move across cities and countries adds another layer to his story. But what remains constant is his commitment to growth, his willingness to evolve, and his deep connection to music as a form of expression.

Diaem Loy’s story is not just about where he has been it is about where he is going.
From a young dancer in Wau to an emerging artist recording across East Africa, his path reflects resilience, curiosity, and vision. He represents a generation that is redefining African music not by abandoning its roots, but by reimagining them.

In a world where sound travels faster than ever, Diaem Loy is building a voice that carries both identity and ambition. And as his music continues to evolve, one thing is certain his journey is only just beginning.
