Nigeria Vice President Kashim Shettima has described Nigeria as a great nation with enormous future potential, citing projections that the country could become the world’s third most populous nation by 2050.

Speaking in Plateau State, Shettima said Nigeria’s population is expected to grow to approximately 440 million people within the next three decades, surpassing the United States in population size.

The Vice President said the projected demographic growth positions Nigeria as a major global force with increasing influence in economic, political, and social affairs.

“Nigeria is a great country,” Shettima said, while highlighting the country’s strategic importance both within Africa and internationally.

He further noted that by the end of the century, “one out of every two black men will be a Nigerian,” underscoring what he described as Nigeria’s growing demographic significance on the global stage.

Nigeria is already Africa’s most populous country and one of the continent’s largest economies. Analysts say the country’s rapidly growing youth population presents both major opportunities and challenges, including the need for increased investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.

Demographic projections by international agencies have consistently indicated that Africa will account for a significant share of global population growth over the coming decades, with Nigeria expected to play a central role in that expansion.
