Uganda and Zambia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation following a high-level meeting between President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Rt. Hon. Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia.
The discussions, held at State House Entebbe, were also attended by Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, and focused on regional security, stability, and parliamentary collaboration within the Great Lakes Region.
In his remarks, President Museveni emphasized the need for unity among African nations in addressing security concerns and fostering economic integration. He highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in resolving conflicts and ensuring sustainable development.
Speaker Mutti, who also serves as the President of the Forum of Parliaments of the Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR), commended Uganda’s role in promoting regional peace and stability. She noted that stronger ties between member states would facilitate legislative efforts aimed at addressing shared challenges such as governance, trade, and security.
Speaker Among reiterated Uganda’s commitment to deepening cooperation with regional parliaments, stressing that legislative frameworks should align with national and regional development goals. She emphasized that stronger parliamentary relations would enhance policy implementation and regional integration.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued dialogue and strategic partnerships in ensuring long-term peace and prosperity in the Great Lakes Region. Both leaders expressed optimism that increased collaboration would drive economic growth and political stability across member states.
