President Museveni Assumes Chairmanship of EAC Summit
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially assumed the chairmanship of the East African Community (EAC) Summit, taking over from outgoing Chairperson William Ruto.
The handover took place at the conclusion of the EAC Heads of State Summit held at the Arusha International Conference Centre in Arusha.
During the summit, regional leaders also approved the appointment of Stephen Patrick Mbundi, an ambassador from the United Republic of Tanzania, as the new Secretary General of the East African Community.
In his remarks as the incoming chairperson, President Museveni expressed gratitude to fellow leaders of the region for entrusting him with the responsibility of guiding the bloc over the next year. He also conveyed greetings from the people of Uganda.
Museveni emphasized that East Africa stands at a critical moment in its history and called on leaders and citizens across the region to remain focused on what he described as the historic mission of strengthening regional integration, expanding trade, and deepening cooperation among partner states.
The EAC Summit is the highest decision-making organ of the Community and is composed of Heads of State from member countries, who meet periodically to determine the strategic direction of the regional bloc.
