President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assented to eight pieces of legislation, marking a significant update to Uganda’s legal and regulatory framework across key sectors.

Among the laws is the National Drug and Health Products Authority Act, 2026, which broadens oversight of medicines, vaccines, medical devices, diagnostics, and cosmetics to improve safety and quality control.

The President also signed the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, 2026, introducing mandatory energy standards, audits, and tighter regulation of inefficient technologies.

In the financial sector, the Non-Performing Assets Recovery Trust (Repeal) Act, 2024 dissolves the Trust and transfers its functions to the Ministry of Finance to streamline operations.

Labour protections were strengthened through the Employment (Amendment) Act, 2025, which enhances safeguards for domestic, casual, and migrant workers.

Other notable laws include the Forensic and Scientific Analytical Services Act, 2026 aimed at improving forensic systems and evidence handling, the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Act, 2026, the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture (Amendment) Act, 2024, and the Magistrates Courts (Amendment) Act, 2026.

The new laws collectively aim to strengthen governance, improve service delivery, and modernize Uganda’s legal systems.

President Museveni has signed eight new laws covering health regulation, energy efficiency, labour rights, finance, and justice, signaling broad reforms across Uganda’s key sectors.
