Rose Obigah has officially declared her bid for the position of Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s 12th Parliament, promising inclusive leadership, stronger parliamentary oversight, and improved service delivery.
Speaking during a media address held at Kati Kati Restaurant, Obigah said she was offering herself for leadership to help build a Parliament that responds effectively to the needs of ordinary Ugandans.
“Today I stand before you to offer myself for service as Deputy Speaker. My focus is on a Parliament that listens, delivers, and works for every Ugandan,” she said.
Obigah emphasized the importance of accountability, unity, and stronger representation of women in top parliamentary leadership positions.
Her announcement adds to the growing contest for the Deputy Speakership ahead of the official election of parliamentary leaders scheduled for May 25.
Political supporters and observers attending the event described Obigah as an experienced and calm leader capable of fostering consensus within Parliament while strengthening legislative service delivery.
Her supporters cited her commitment to national unity, parliamentary experience, and people-centered leadership as key qualities that make her suitable for the role.
The Deputy Speaker race has attracted increasing attention following major political shifts within the ruling National Resistance Movement, including the withdrawal of several endorsements and ongoing consultations within party structures over preferred candidates for the top parliamentary positions.
Obigah’s declaration now sets the stage for wider political engagements and lobbying ahead of the highly anticipated parliamentary vote.
