The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), in collaboration with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), has initiated the relocation of over 50 birds and their habitats as part of efforts to upgrade key traffic junctions across the city.<\/p>\n

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), in partnership with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), has embarked on relocating over 50 birds from their habitats near the Esso Corner Junction along Jinja Road. The move comes as part of the Project for Improvement of Traffic Control in Kampala City, which targets signalizing 27 junctions and upgrading five roundabouts across the capital.<\/p>\n

The Esso Corner Junction, located near Victoria University, is one of the areas set for signalization, requiring the clearing of certain trees that serve as habitats for local bird species. According to a press statement from KCCA, this relocation initiative is being conducted in a responsible manner to ensure minimal disruption to the city’s environment while allowing the necessary infrastructural improvements.<\/p>\n

\u201cKCCA is committed to fast-tracking infrastructure developments while having due consideration for the environment,\u201d the statement read. The authority emphasized the need to balance urban growth with environmental sustainability as Kampala undergoes major transformations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The collaboration with UWA is designed to ensure the birds are safely relocated to suitable habitats, preserving the city’s ecological balance despite the infrastructural changes. The signalization of these key traffic points, including the Esso Corner Junction, is expected to significantly improve mobility in the city, which has long struggled with traffic congestion due to rapid urbanization and a rising number of vehicles.<\/p>\n
