<\/p>\nCongolese musician Delcat Idengo, renowned for his politically charged songs, was shot and killed Thursday afternoon while filming a music video in Goma, North Kivu.<\/p>\n
The artist, whose latest track condemned both the M23 rebels and ADF militants as forces of occupation, was attacked near Kilijiwe and died instantly from a gunshot wound to the head.<\/p>\n

The Congolese Ministry of Arts and Culture mourned his loss, calling him “a committed voice who carried the aspirations and hopes of an entire generation through his music.”<\/p>\n
“Delcat Idengo was not only a musician but a symbol of resistance, a voice for the voiceless. His death is a tragic loss to the world of music and to the people of the DRC.”<\/p>\n
The circumstances surrounding Idengo\u2019s death have sparked a mixed reaction among activists. While many have condemned the brutal killing, some have criticized the artist\u2019s actions as reckless.<\/p>\n
“It is an absurd death because he could have avoided it with more caution. These rebels are cruel and must be punished, but let us remain wise in the face of weapons.”<\/p>\n
Idengo\u2019s death also occurs at a time of heightened tensions in Goma, where the M23 rebels have seized control of the city and established a new government.<\/p>\n
The group, which has long been accused of receiving support from Rwanda, briefly captured Goma in 2012 before retreating under international pressure. Their return and the subsequent establishment of their control have led to an even more volatile situation in the region.<\/p>\n
