President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned against sectarianism, stating that any leader or individual engaging in divisive practices should be arrested.<\/p>\n

Speaking in the Kigezi sub-region during a media briefing on the progress of the Parish Development Model, he emphasized that unity, rather than tribal or religious divisions, is key to national development.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his personal experiences, Museveni shared how his education was supported by a Muganda businessman who purchased cattle from his family. He used this example to illustrate the interdependence between Uganda\u2019s different communities, urging citizens to focus on economic cooperation instead of tribal affiliations.<\/p>\n

Politics is about helping people, not sectarianism. What matters is the market for each other\u2019s businesses, not tribes,\u201d he said, stressing that no tribe in Uganda makes up more than 20 percent of the population, making national unity essential for progress.<\/p>\n

On the economic front, Museveni announced that the government is prepared to increase Parish Development Model funding from 100 million to 200 million shillings, provided the initial allocation is well utilized. He explained that while the program originally focused on coffee plantations, it could also support other income-generating activities such as pig farming and poultry. The government will monitor the success of the current funding before making further adjustments.<\/p>\n
