The government of Uganda\u00a0 has reaffirmed its commitment to a clean, transparent, and peaceful by-election in Kawempe North, despite recent clashes between security forces and National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters.<\/p>\n

While presenting a statement in Parliament, State Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. David Muhoozi, addressed concerns over the arrest of 24 NUP supporters, including Members of Parliament Muwadda Nkunyingi and Derick Nyeko.<\/p>\n

“Some of those apprehended are accused of alleged use of military gear, which is a preserve of the security forces,”<\/em> Gen. Muhoozi explained.<\/p>\n

He assured Parliament that the government remains dedicated to ensuring a free and fair electoral process and urged all political actors to operate within legal boundaries to maintain peace and order.<\/p>\n

The recent skirmishes have heightened tensions in the run-up to the by-election, with NUP leaders accusing security agencies of intimidation and interference in the democratic process.
