<\/p>\nSix people, including three children, died when a helicopter carrying a family of tourists crashed into the Hudson River in New York, officials confirmed Thursday.<\/p>\n
The victims were a family of five from Spain and the pilot, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll were onboard the helicopter at the time of the crash,\u201d said Adams. \u201cOur hearts go out to the families.\u201d<\/p>\n
Authorities have not officially released the names, but the victims have been widely identified as Agust\u00edn Escobar and his wife Merc\u00e8 Camprub\u00ed Montal\u00a0 both executives at Siemens \u2014 and their three children, aged four, five, and eleven.<\/p>\n
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez called the news \u201cdevastating\u201d and expressed solidarity with the grieving families. Salvador Illa, a regional leader in Barcelona, said he was sending \u201call my affection\u201d to the loved ones of the victims.<\/p>\n
Video footage shows the helicopter flipping upside down before plummeting into the river. The aircraft lost control shortly after making a turn at the George Washington Bridge to follow the New Jersey shoreline, officials said.<\/p>\n
The Bell 206 helicopter, operated by New York Helicopters, departed from Downtown Skyport in lower Manhattan at 14:59 local time. The first emergency calls came in around 15:17, according to New York Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker.<\/p>\n

\u201cSwimmers were in the water shortly after the call,\u201d he said. Rescue boats were launched immediately, and life-saving efforts began, but all attempts were unsuccessful. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others died at a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n
The crash site, near Manhattan\u2019s west side, lies close to NYU\u2019s main campus and is a popular area known for shopping and restaurants.<\/p>\n
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the National Transportation Safety Board would lead the investigation into the crash of the Bell 206 \u2014 a helicopter commonly used for sightseeing, news coverage, and police work.<\/p>\n
US President Donald Trump described the crash as \u201cterrible\u201d and said further details would be released. \u201cGod bless the families and friends of the victims,\u201d he posted on Truth Social.<\/p>\n
Michael Roth, CEO of New York Helicopter Charter Inc., said he was \u201cdevastated\u201d by the crash. \u201cI\u2019m a father, a grandfather, and my wife hasn\u2019t stopped crying since this afternoon,\u201d he told CNN.<\/p>\n
When asked about the aircraft\u2019s maintenance, Roth said, \u201cIt\u2019s my director of maintenance who deals with that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses described scenes of confusion and panic. Jersey City resident Jenn Lynk said she initially thought it was nothing serious until emergency sirens began. Another witness, Ipsitaa Banigrhi, said the crash \u201csounded like thunder,\u201d and she saw \u201cblack particles flying.\u201d<\/p>\n
