The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has called on the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to consider reducing taxes on sanitary pads in order to make them more affordable for girls and women across the country.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a Women\u2019s Day breakfast meeting at Parliament to mark International Women’s Day 2026, the Speaker said the high cost of sanitary products remains a major barrier for many school-going girls.<\/p>\n
Among noted that some girls are forced to miss school or even drop out altogether due to the inability to afford sanitary pads, coupled with the stigma often associated with menstruation.<\/p>\n
She emphasized that making sanitary products more accessible and affordable would play a critical role in keeping girls in school and safeguarding their dignity.<\/p>\n
The breakfast meeting was held under the theme: \u201cScaling up investment to accelerate access to justice for all women and girls in Uganda.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the Speaker, addressing menstrual health challenges is an important step toward achieving gender equality and ensuring that girls can fully participate in education without disruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
