Five senior female officers of the Uganda Prisons Service have been awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of their outstanding service to the country.<\/p>\n
The medals were presented by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during International Women’s Day celebrations held at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.<\/p>\n
The awards, granted under the National Honours and Awards Act, recognize loyalty, professionalism, and decades of distinguished service. All the recipients hold the senior non-commissioned ranks of Chief Wardress Grade I or II and have served the Prisons Service for more than three decades.<\/p>\n
The Honoured Officers<\/p>\n
Chief Wardress Grade I Jane Mugenyi<\/p>\n
Born on April 24, 1975, in Hoima District, Jane Mugenyi joined the Prisons Service on September 2, 1994. Over her 32-year career, she progressed from Recruit Wardress to an experienced administrative officer.<\/p>\n
She initially served as a clerk at Kigo Main Prison before supporting the Regional Prisons Commander (Central). She later worked in the Division of Statistics and the Internal Audit Division at Prisons Headquarters. Promoted to Chief Wardress Grade I in November 2021, she is widely recognized for her professionalism and efficiency in institutional administration.<\/p>\n
Chief Wardress Grade I Apolot Evalyn Susan<\/p>\n
Born on October 17, 1975, in Kumi District, Apolot joined the service on April 14, 1993. Her 33 years of service are highlighted by her significant contribution to officer training.<\/p>\n
She spent 22 years at the Prisons Academy and Training School where she helped train and mentor hundreds of recruits. She later served at Iganga Government Prison beginning in 2015. Her leadership and dedication to professional development earned her promotion to Chief Wardress Grade I in November 2021.<\/p>\n
Chief Wardress Grade I Akello Florence<\/p>\n
Akello Florence, born November 14, 1968, in Soroti District, has served for 36 years since joining the service in December 1989.<\/p>\n
From 1990 to 2009 she was a key member of the Prisons Band, representing the service in national ceremonies. She later transitioned into custodial leadership roles in prisons in Mbale and Soroti. She was promoted to Chief Wardress Grade I in November 2021 and is known for her resilience and dedication to inmate welfare and discipline.<\/p>\n
Chief Wardress Grade II Amoit Zippola<\/p>\n
Born November 24, 1968, in Tororo District, Amoit Zippola has served for 31 years since joining on September 2, 1994.<\/p>\n
She has worked in several facilities including Mbarara, Nakasongola, and Kigo Main Prison. Currently stationed at Lira Women Prison, she serves as third-in-command, overseeing station operations and prisoner welfare. She was promoted to Chief Wardress Grade II in November 2021.<\/p>\n
Chief Wardress Grade I Daphine Mindraa<\/p>\n
Daphine Mindraa, born August 23, 1968, in Adjumani District, joined the service on December 4, 1989 and has also completed 36 years of service.<\/p>\n
Holding a Certificate in Prisons Management, she served at Luzira Women\u2019s Prison and Adjumani Prison for two decades before transferring to Arua Main Prison in 2017. As the officer in charge of reception and gate operations, she is recognized for her meticulous handling of prisoner records and mentorship of junior officers.<\/p>\n
