The Uganda Police Force has reported a 10 per cent reduction in crime in 2025, attributing the decline to improved coordination, technology, and community policing strategies.<\/p>\n

Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba announced the figures at the police headquarters in Naguru, noting that the drop surpasses the 4.1 per cent decline recorded in 2024.<\/p>\n

\"\"Byakagaba credited the milestone to stronger leadership, a clearer chain of command, and enhanced collaboration with other security agencies. He also highlighted the role of inter-agency coordination under Muhoozi Kainerugaba, saying it has strengthened operational effectiveness.<\/p>\n

The police chief pointed to the rollout of the sub-county policing model as a key reform, bringing services closer to communities, although it currently covers about 56 per cent of sub-counties.<\/p>\n

He further cited the increased use of technology and force multipliers\u2014including CCTV surveillance, canine units, forensic services, and IT systems\u2014as critical in improving crime detection and prevention.<\/p>\n

Additionally, intelligence-led operations have been intensified, with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) playing a central role in tracking and prosecuting suspects. CID Director Tom Magambo revealed that reported cases dropped from 218,715 to 196,405.<\/p>\n

Despite the progress, police acknowledged ongoing staffing challenges, emphasizing the need for continued investment in personnel and resources to sustain the gains.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
