Uganda remains largely peaceful and stable despite ongoing security threats, Richard Otto has told Members of Parliament on the Committee of Defence and Internal Affairs.<\/p>\n

During his briefing, the senior military officer said the country has recorded about 700 violent crime incidents since January 2026, resulting in more than 250 deaths, while at least 30 terror suspects have been arrested.<\/p>\n

However, he warned that the Allied Democratic Forces continue to pose a threat, noting that the group is increasingly using encrypted communication platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram to coordinate activities.<\/p>\n

Maj Gen Otto revealed that joint military operations by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have pushed ADF fighters about 300 kilometers away from Uganda\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n

Despite this progress, he cautioned that the threat is far from over, citing a recent attack in which at least 20 people were killed and beheaded, underscoring the group\u2019s continued brutality.<\/p>\n

Security agencies maintain that vigilance, intelligence coordination, and regional cooperation remain critical in preventing further attacks and ensuring national stability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
