A widening corruption storm is increasingly drawing scrutiny toward allies and close associates of former Speaker Anita Annet Among, as investigators reportedly examine allegations of influence peddling, suspicious financial transactions, and politically connected patronage networks linked to her tenure at Parliament of Uganda.<\/p>\n
What was once viewed as one of the most formidable political camps within Parliament is now facing growing pressure, with security agencies said to be investigating legislators, parliamentary officials, and political operatives believed to have operated within Among\u2019s influential network.<\/p>\n
Among the legislators whose names are reportedly surfacing in the ongoing investigations are Dickson Kateshumbwa, Amos Kankunda, Herbert Ariko, Dan Kimosho, Patrick Opolot Isiagi, Asuman Basalirwa, and Abdu Katuntu.<\/p>\n
Several of the lawmakers have previously served on influential parliamentary committees, including finance and accountability committees responsible for oversight of major government expenditures and public institutions.<\/p>\n
The investigations are also reviving earlier claims that some individuals within Parliament allegedly solicited or received money from people appearing before parliamentary committees, including figures previously implicated in corruption-related cases such as Cissy Namujju.<\/p>\n
Fresh attention has reportedly turned toward controversial financial transactions involving relatives and associates of politically connected figures.<\/p>\n
One case said to be under renewed scrutiny involves the daughter of former parliamentary commissioner Solomon Silwany, who allegedly received nearly Shs700 million through a Parliament-linked transaction before the funds were reportedly withdrawn within hours.<\/p>\n
Sources indicate the transaction had previously attracted interest from criminal investigators, with Silwany allegedly questioned over the matter in earlier inquiries.<\/p>\n
At the same time, multiple senior parliamentary managers and directors are reportedly under quiet investigation over claims they received unusually large sums of money allegedly ranging between Shs400 million and Shs500 million.<\/p>\n
Investigators are also said to be examining what they describe as a broader political mobilisation structure built around Among during her leadership as Speaker.<\/p>\n
Incoming Patrick Wakida is among those reportedly linked to the network, alongside Anthony Akol, who is alleged to have played a role in consolidating political influence in northern Uganda following the death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.<\/p>\n
Former Michael Tusiime has also emerged in the spotlight amid claims he was strategically positioned within parliamentary structures as part of broader political maneuvering involving rival factions allied to Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.<\/p>\n
The investigations reportedly extend beyond Parliament into regions including Karamoja, Buganda, and Busoga, where several ministers and political mobilisers are alleged to have coordinated support structures connected to Among\u2019s political operations.<\/p>\n
While no formal charges have yet been publicly announced against many of the individuals named, the widening scope of the investigations signals mounting pressure on what was once considered one of the most powerful political networks in Uganda\u2019s legislative establishment.<\/p>\n
