Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has welcomed the endorsement of Jacob Oboth-Oboth as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Speaker of the 12th Parliament and Thomas Tayebwa for the position of Deputy Speaker.<\/p>\n
The President made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting with the first NRM caucus of the 12th Parliament held at State House Entebbe.<\/p>\n
Museveni congratulated the two leaders and reminded Members of Parliament-elect that the ruling National Resistance Movement has consistently rejected what he described as \u201cbad politics\u201d since its inception.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen choosing leaders, we must first ask what needs to be done for the people before asking who should do it,\u201d Museveni told the caucus.<\/p>\n
The President cautioned against politics based on identity, religion, tribalism, and gender chauvinism, urging legislators to instead focus on addressing the needs and challenges facing ordinary Ugandans.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolitics must reject identity, religion, tribalism and gender chauvinism, and instead focus on solving people\u2019s problems,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Museveni emphasized that the government\u2019s priority remains wealth creation and socio-economic transformation through productive engagement in sectors such as agriculture, services, artisanship, and information communication technology (ICT).<\/p>\n
The meeting comes ahead of the official election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament, scheduled for May 25, where the NRM is expected to leverage its parliamentary majority to secure the two top House positions.<\/p>\n
