Robinah Nabbanja has officially been vetted and approved by Parliament as the Prime Minister of Uganda following her reappointment by President Yoweri Museveni.<\/p>\n
Nabbanja\u2019s approval was conducted in accordance with Article 108A(1) of the Constitution, which requires parliamentary vetting before the Prime Minister assumes office.<\/p>\n
The motion seeking her approval was tabled by Jane Ruth Aceng, the Lira City Woman MP and Minister of Health, who commended Nabbanja for what she described as effective and inspirational leadership during her previous tenure.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe has been a pioneering and inspirational leader, being the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Uganda,\u201d Aceng told Parliament.<\/p>\n
Lawmakers supporting the motion credited Nabbanja for strengthening coordination among ministries, departments, and government agencies over the last five years, which they said improved implementation of government programmes and service delivery.<\/p>\n
Her office played a central role in supervising flagship initiatives such as the Parish Development Model and wealth creation programmes intended to improve household incomes across the country.<\/p>\n
Nabbanja was also recognised for coordinating national emergency responses, including government relief interventions during floods and other disasters in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n
Members of Parliament further praised her role in managing government business in the 11th Parliament, particularly in ensuring timely presentation of policies, budgets, and Cabinet positions before the House.<\/p>\n
Under her stewardship, the Office of the Prime Minister also intensified oversight and monitoring of public programmes, with ministers and technocrats frequently tasked to account for delays and implementation bottlenecks.<\/p>\n
However, during debate on the motion, Joseph Ssewungu challenged Nabbanja to address persistent absenteeism among ministers in Parliament, urging her to enforce greater discipline and accountability within government.<\/p>\n
Following debate, Parliament overwhelmingly approved her appointment, with 320 MPs voting in favour, six voting against, and two abstaining.<\/p>\n
The approval clears the way for Nabbanja to officially continue serving as head of government business in Parliament and coordinator of Cabinet activities during the 2026\u20132031 term.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
