Parliament has officially constituted the powerful Appointments and Vetting Committee of the 12th Parliament, bringing together legislators from the ruling National Resistance Movement, opposition parties, and independents to scrutinise presidential appointments and key government nominees.<\/p>\n
The committee will be chaired by Speaker Jacob Oboth-Oboth and deputised by Thomas Tayebwa.<\/p>\n
The committee plays a critical constitutional role in vetting presidential appointees, including ministers, ambassadors, judges, and heads of government agencies before their approval by Parliament.<\/p>\n
Among the NRM legislators appointed to the committee are Catherine Akumu Mavenjina, Jane Avur Pacuto, Betty Awor Engola, Sam Byibesho, and Steven Gashaija Shyaka.<\/p>\n
Other ruling party members include Keefa Kiwanuka, Madina Ntale Nsereko, Johnson Nyeko Kezekiya, Beatrice Rwakimari, and Fadil Twalla.<\/p>\n
The opposition bloc on the committee includes Betty Aol Ocan, Lucy Akello, Joel Ssenyonyi, Paul Mwiru, and Joseph Ssewungu.<\/p>\n
Also appointed are representatives from smaller opposition parties and independents, including Ismail Kasule, Esther Acom, Angella Akoth Nzokire, and Herbert Kinobere.<\/p>\n
Political analysts say the composition of the committee reflects an attempt to balance regional, political, and special interest representation while ensuring broad parliamentary participation in one of the House\u2019s most influential oversight bodies.<\/p>\n
