Parliament has directed Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) Managing Director Benon Kajuna to record a statement with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) over allegations surrounding the disappearance of 394 railway wagons valued at approximately Shs220.8 billion.

The directive follows concerns raised over the reported missing wagons, prompting legislators to seek accountability and establish the circumstances under which the assets disappeared.

Members of Parliament instructed Kajuna to cooperate with CID investigators by recording a formal statement to aid ongoing investigations into the matter.

The missing wagons, estimated to be worth Shs220.8 billion, have sparked concern over the management and safeguarding of public assets at the state-owned railway corporation.

Investigations are expected to establish the whereabouts of the wagons, determine whether any criminal offences were committed, and identify individuals who may be held responsible.

The development comes as Parliament continues to intensify oversight of public institutions to promote accountability and protect government property.
