The President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni earlier met Mr. Liu Guozhong, the Special Representative of H.E Xi Jinping, the President of China.
Mr. Guozhong who is also the Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Vice Premier of the State Council is representing H.E Jinping at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77+ China Summits.

In a sideline meeting during the NAM summit at Speke Resort, Munyonyo, President Museveni expressed profound gratitude to China for its unwavering support during the anti-colonial struggle and highlighted its crucial role in bolstering Africa’s economic development since its early days of independence.

“We have been together in the Anti-colonial struggle, China supported us when we were fighting for independence, it also supported the freedom fighting groups in Southern Africa; Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa then the ones who were in political”, Museveni added

Museveni said that International Financial Institutions must access services to countries in need without necessarily infringing on their right to sovereignty.

In his remarks, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres hailed the theme of the summit, “Leaving no One Behind”, but lamented that the meeting, also known as the Third South Summit, was coming when some communities were being left behind, and others still suffering the effects of COVID-19, disasters and poor infrastructure.

The G77+China Summit commenced hours after the conclusion of the Non-Aligned Movement Summit at Speke Resort, Munyonyo Kampala
