Kyabazinga Call On Basoga Community to Embrace National Census Endeavor

Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV has rallied his subjects in Busoga sub region to embrace the upcoming National Population and Housing Census that is yet to be conducted in Busoga and Country at large this week.

The National Population and Housing Census will be conducted starting May 9th and May 10th all over the country.

Speaking during a meeting with the Executive Director of the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Chris Mukiza who was accompanied by a few of UBOS staff at the Kyabazinga’s Igenge Palace in Jinja City on Monday, Kyabazinga said the census results will serve as vital indicators to guide planning and program implementation in Busoga sub region and country at large.

The Monarch requested his subjects to stay in their respective homes on the Census night of May 9th so that they may be counted.

He further requested them to be obedient in responding to questions that will be asked by enumerators who will visit their homes adding that on May 9th, enumerators will find him at his Igenge Palace where he will be enumerated from.

Kyabazinga agreed to be champion of the Census exercise in Busoga sub region and further re-echoed to his subjects to embrace the Census.

The Executive Director of UBOS, Chris Mukiza said this is going to be the first digital census where enumerators will be using tablets to record information from individuals adding that they have trained enumerators and their supervisors in doing so.

“Five major questions will be asked and these include; How many people are we in the Country whether by religion, sex or age; Where they are? How are the counted people living? What assets do they have? And Where they get services from which include health and education services in their various regions,” Mukiza said.

Furthermore, Mukiza said that the data generated from the Census will be confidential, adding that they have created firewalls to their data services so that nobody can penetrate or hack data.

He revealed that the central government has invested shs320.3 billion to conduct the National census adding that even amidst scarcity, they have all the money.

Mukiza said they have requested for a setup of a Statistics Office at the headquarters of ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga institution and it will be equipped with one laptop, tablets and they will employ and train two statisticians in data statistics who will be nominated by the Kyabazinga himself with required qualifications.

The deputy Executive Director of UBOS, Godfrey Nabongo said that for those with polygamous families, they will register their homes but will count them from homes they will find them during the Census night of May 9th.

The second deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, Owek. Al-haji Osman Ahmed Noor thanked the Kyabazinga for giving the UBOS Executive Director time to visit him at short notice in the interest of fostering their agenda.
