Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the Special Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and Head of the NRM National Chairman’s Office (ONC), vehemently denied allegations of soliciting money from Ugandan students in exchange for scholarships to study in Iran.

Hajjat Namyalo addressed the media in response to social media reports claiming she had been summoned to Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) over accusations including extortion and human trafficking.

She clarified the nature of the scholarships provided by the Iranian Embassy, emphasizing that 93 students had successfully met the criteria and traveled to Iran for their studies without any financial obligations imposed by her office.

“What I can say about this matter is that Iran gave us scholarships and this was coordinated by one Esther Nankinga. When they brought these students to me, I cautioned them students not to pay any single coin to any person. So if you know you paid money, go demand it now from whoever you gave it to, or go to the police and report them,” she asserted.

Hajjat Namyalo also criticized those spreading these allegations, calling on accusers to present evidence rather than relying on unfounded rumors. She highlighted the positive impact of the scholarships and the transparent process undertaken by the ONC in collaboration with the Iranian Embassy.

“The embassy last year approached our office for a scholarship opportunity to benefit the Bazzukulu, and we ensured a fair selection process. These baseless allegations are attempts to tarnish our good work and reputation,” she said.

The ONC’s collaboration with the Iranian Embassy has provided valuable opportunities for Ugandan students, and Hajjat Namyalo remains steadfast in her commitment to support educational initiatives without any form of extortion.

As the story unfolds, the ONC has urged anyone with concrete evidence to come forward and report it to the relevant authorities. Meanwhile, Hajjat Namyalo continues to advocate for integrity and transparency in all dealings related to the office.
