East African Community (EAC) leaders have called for urgent dialogue to resolve the escalating conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The resolution was reached during an Extra-Ordinary Summit held last night, chaired by Kenya’s President William Ruto, where the region’s heads of state, including Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, deliberated on the worsening security situation in the DRC.

The summit underscored the importance of political dialogue in ending instability, urging President Félix Tshisekedi to engage with armed groups in his country. Additionally, the leaders proposed an emergency summit between the EAC and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to foster a long-term solution.

This move highlights regional efforts to prevent further humanitarian crises and economic disruptions, positioning the EAC as a key player in restoring stability to the mineral-rich but conflict-ridden nation.

President Museveni, a strong proponent of dialogue over military confrontation, emphasized the need for a collaborative approach. His stance aligns with previous peace efforts led by Uganda and other regional actors, advocating for diplomatic negotiations as a sustainable path to peace.

With the DRC facing intensified violence, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether this renewed push for negotiations will yield tangible results.
