President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has kicked off his Parish Development Model (PDM) tour of the Ankole sub-region, starting in Rubirizi District, where he emphasized the area’s economic potential in agriculture, tourism, and tea production.

Speaking in Rubirizi, Museveni noted that the district, home to over 50 crater lakes, including Lake Nkugute, as well as a section of Queen Elizabeth National Park, was well-positioned to benefit from government development programs. He pointed out that agriculture, tea estates, and tourism were key pillars of the district’s economy and urged residents to maximize the opportunities available.

“The people of Rubirizi have great potential in farming and tourism. The government is committed to ensuring that PDM funds reach the right people to boost household incomes,” said Museveni.

The President also highlighted key tourist attractions such as Kyambura Gorge and Lake Edward, which he said could be further developed to attract more visitors and generate revenue for the district.

During the tour, Museveni reassured locals of the government’s continued support in modernizing agriculture and improving infrastructure to facilitate trade and tourism. He urged PDM beneficiaries to invest in productive ventures that would uplift their livelihoods.

The PDM tour is expected to cover various districts in Ankole, focusing on assessing the program’s impact and addressing challenges faced by local communities.
