The Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) has teamed up with the Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) in a new initiative aimed at equipping journalists with the skills to simplify complex budget information for public understanding.
The collaboration, which officially kicked off on Thursday, seeks to enhance the capacity of parliamentary reporters to effectively cover budgetary and public finance management issues.
UPPA President Samuel Ibanda Mugabi emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “This training will not only improve budget reporting but also amplify policy propositions on the national budget.”
Budget reporting remains a critical aspect of journalism, ensuring transparency and accountability in government spending. Through this partnership, journalists will receive specialized training to break down technical financial details into more accessible information for the public.
CSBAG has long been involved in advocating for inclusive and transparent budget processes, and this partnership with UPPA is expected to bridge the gap between complex financial data and citizen engagement.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen media capacity in economic and governance reporting, ensuring that Ugandans have a clearer understanding of how public funds are allocated and spent.
