Senegalese football icon and 2002 World Cup star El Hadji Diouf met with Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, to discuss ways to develop football in the country.

The former Liverpool forward’s visit is expected to inspire young Ugandan athletes and promote sports as a tool for national development.

Senegalese football legend El Hadji Diouf, a key figure in Africa’s football history, paid a courtesy visit to Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, where they discussed strategies to enhance the growth of football in the country.

Speaker Among welcomed Diouf to her Nakasero residence, highlighting the impact of his presence on Uganda’s young footballers.

“His presence in the country will greatly motivate our young athletes and show how sports can benefit both individuals and the nation. We also encouraged him to serve as an ambassador, showcasing the beauty of our country to the world.”

Diouf, a two-time African Footballer of the Year, was a key player in Senegal’s historic 2002 FIFA World Cup campaign, where they reached the quarterfinals. He remains an influential figure in African football and has dedicated his post-playing career to developing the sport across the continent.

During his visit, Diouf also took time to recognize the efforts of Bukedea Comprehensive School, commending the institution for its role in promoting sports in East Africa.

“Sports is a powerful tool for shaping young lives, and I am impressed by the commitment of Bukedea Comprehensive School to nurturing talent. Investing in youth sports is investing in the future.”
