President Yoweri Museveni and opposition leaders from Acholi have agreed to set aside political differences and work together to address poverty and drive socio-economic transformation in the sub-region.

The high-level discussions, held at State House, brought together Members of Parliament from Acholi, cutting across different political affiliations. The leaders emphasized the need for unity in tackling pressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment, which have hindered progress in the region for decades.

President Museveni welcomed the commitment from opposition MPs, stressing that national development should take precedence over political rivalries.

“We may have different political beliefs, but the well-being of Ugandans, especially those in Acholi, must come first. Poverty is not an NRM or opposition issue; it is a challenge we must all fight together,” Museveni said.

The opposition leaders, in turn, expressed their willingness to work with the government to implement development programs, including agricultural modernization, education, and infrastructure projects aimed at uplifting the region.

This meeting signals a potential shift in Uganda’s political landscape, as leaders from opposing sides choose dialogue and collaboration over confrontation in pursuit of national progress.
