Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has officially declared her income, assets, and liabilities to the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) in line with the Leadership Code Act, 2002, urging fellow leaders to do the same before the March 31st deadline to promote transparency and accountability.

Speaking after submitting her declaration, Among emphasized the importance of compliance with the law, stating that wealth declaration helps track financial integrity by comparing income, savings, and expenditure over time.

“All leaders must comply with the law and submit their declarations in time. This process is essential in building public trust and ensuring accountability,” she stated.

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Betty Kamya, and her deputies also declared their wealth before the Speaker, setting an example for other public officials.

With just weeks left before the Online Declaration System closes at midnight on March 31st, 2025, only 37% of leaders have complied so far. Among warned that failure to declare on time could lead to serious consequences, including removal from office, as prescribed by the Leadership Code Act.

Under Section 4 (1) (b) of the Leadership Code Act, leaders are required to declare their wealth every two years in March, with penalties for non-compliance. The Inspectorate of Government is expected to investigate, verify, and take action against those who fail to meet the deadline.

With the countdown to the deadline ticking, the pressure is now on leaders yet to comply with the law before facing possible sanctions.
