Court Defers Burial of Masaka Businessman and Children Amid Family Dispute

The Masaka High Court has ordered that the bodies of Masaka City businessman Bosco Bitanda and his two children be kept at the Kitovu Hospital Mortuary until March 26, 2026, pending a ruling on their final burial arrangements.

The decision follows a dispute between the widow and the deceased’s relatives over where the trio should be laid to rest. The widow maintains that Bitanda had expressed a wish to be buried at his country home, which is still under construction. However, family members, led by his mother, insist that he should be buried at the ancestral burial site in accordance with family tradition.

The three died in a tragic road accident along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, a major route that has in recent years recorded several fatal incidents.

Court intervention has temporarily halted burial plans to allow time for legal determination of the matter, highlighting the sensitive nature of burial rights where personal wishes and cultural expectations often collide.

The ruling expected later this month will determine where the businessman and his children will finally be laid to rest, as both sides await the court’s decision.
