Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Adonia Ayebare, has dismissed the recent international engagements by opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu as mere publicity stunts.

Ayebare argued that visits to high-profile locations such as Capitol Hill do not amount to formal diplomatic engagement, noting that the area is accessible to the public and does not necessarily reflect official recognition or influence.

He further stated that if the Government of Uganda intended to restrict Kyagulanyi’s international movements, it has the option of pursuing formal mechanisms such as issuing an Interpol notice.

The remarks come amid growing attention around Kyagulanyi’s recent visit to the United States, where some of his supporters viewed the engagements as a significant step toward internationalizing Uganda’s political situation.

However, Ayebare’s comments reflect the government’s position that such trips do not carry official diplomatic weight, highlighting the ongoing contest between the state and opposition over political influence both locally and abroad.
