The dispute over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title has escalated after the Senegalese Football Federation formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

According to CAS, the appeal registered on March 25, 2026 seeks to overturn the decision by the Confederation of African Football that stripped Senegal of the title and awarded it to Morocco.

In its submission, the FSF is asking CAS to nullify CAF’s ruling and reinstate Senegal as the rightful champions, setting the stage for a high-stakes legal battle in international sports arbitration.

CAS has confirmed that an arbitral panel will be appointed to handle the case, with a procedural timeline to be established before hearings begin. A final verdict is expected after the panel reviews submissions from all parties involved.

The outcome of the case could significantly impact not only the official records of the tournament but also set a precedent on how disputes arising from match conduct and regulatory enforcement are handled in African football.
