Tanzania is moving forward with plans to develop the Mangapwani Integrated Port in Zanzibar, a project valued at approximately $300 million aimed at strengthening maritime infrastructure and boosting regional trade.

The proposed port is expected to enhance cargo handling capacity, reduce congestion at existing facilities, and improve logistics across the Zanzibar archipelago. Authorities say the development forms part of broader efforts to expand the blue economy and attract investment into the region.

Located along Zanzibar’s northern coastline, Mangapwani has been identified as a strategic site due to its proximity to major Indian Ocean shipping routes, positioning it as a potential hub for regional and international trade.

The project remains in its planning and early development stages, with more details expected as implementation progresses.
