Museveni Hails Gen. Salim Saleh as Symbol of Patriotism at Kyankwanzi RetrePresident Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised Caleb Akandwanaho, widely known as Gen. Salim Saleh, for dedicating his youthful years to Uganda’s liberation struggle, describing him as a true patriot and an inspiration to the country’s younger generation.

The President made the remarks during the seventh day of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) retreat for newly elected Members of Parliament at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, where he also presided over the laying of a foundation stone for the Gen. (Rtd) Caleb Akandwanaho (Salim Saleh) School of Research and the Walter Rodney Block.

Museveni highlighted Gen. Saleh’s early involvement in the liberation struggle, noting that his decision to join the armed struggle at a young age demonstrated courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to national transformation.

He described Saleh as a symbol of patriotism whose life story should serve as a guiding example for young Ugandans, particularly those in leadership, to prioritize national interest over personal gain.

The establishment of the School of Research and the Walter Rodney Block at Kyankwanzi is aimed at strengthening ideological training, research, and leadership development within the ruling party.

President Museveni emphasized the importance of equipping leaders with historical awareness and ideological clarity, noting that institutions like Kyankwanzi play a critical role in shaping disciplined and informed leadership.

Addressing the newly elected MPs, the President urged them to learn from the sacrifices of past leaders like Gen. Saleh and to remain committed to service, discipline, and the principles of the NRM.

He stressed that Uganda’s progress has been built on the dedication of individuals who placed country above self, calling on the current generation of leaders to uphold that legacy.

The ongoing retreat at Kyankwanzi continues to focus on orienting legislators on governance priorities, party ideology, and national development strategies, with unity and discipline remaining key themes throughout the sessions.

The event underscores the NRM’s continued effort to reinforce its historical foundations while preparing a new generation of leaders to carry forward its vision.
