The three-day orientation programme for Members of Uganda’s 12th Parliament has officially commenced at the parliamentary south parking lot in Kampala.

The onboarding exercise, organized by the Parliament of Uganda, is conducted at the beginning of every parliamentary term to help newly elected legislators adapt to their roles and responsibilities.

The programme is designed to familiarize Members of Parliament with the institutional culture, legislative framework, rules of procedure, and organizational structure of the House to ensure smooth execution of their constitutional duties.

Speaking during the opening session, the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, urged MPs to actively participate in the orientation sessions.

Mwesige emphasized that the programme would equip legislators with the knowledge and understanding necessary to effectively perform their oversight, representation, and legislative functions during the life of the 12th Parliament.

The orientation is expected to cover key parliamentary procedures, committee operations, ethics and conduct, budgeting processes, and interactions with various government institutions.

The 12th Parliament recently commenced its term following the swearing-in of Members of Parliament and the election of Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth as Speaker.
