Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has announced a new Cabinet that will serve during the 2026–2031 term, exercising powers vested in the Presidency under the 1995 Constitution of Uganda.
The appointments include the Vice President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State, and Senior Presidential Advisors.
Among the key appointments, Jessica Rose Epel Alupo has retained her position as Vice President, while Robinah Nabbanja remains Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
Former First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga returns as 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, while veteran politician Crispus Walter Kiyonga has been appointed 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business.
In the education sector, Janet Kataaha Museveni retained the Education and Sports docket, while Milly Babirye Babalanda maintained her role as Minister for the Presidency.
Several notable reshuffles were made across major ministries. Henry Musasizi was appointed Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, replacing previous leadership at the ministry.
Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Adonia Ayebare, was named Minister of Foreign Affairs, while Norbert Mao retained the Justice and Constitutional Affairs portfolio.
Former security and military figures also featured prominently in the new lineup. Henry Tumukunde was appointed Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, while Katumba Wamala was named Minister of Public Service.
The President also appointed several new Ministers of State across different sectors including agriculture, health, finance, trade, tourism, and education.
Among the notable appointments, Phiona Nyamutoro was named State Minister for Minerals, while Peter Ogwang retained the Sports docket as Minister of State.
In the trade sector, businessman Sanjay Tanna was appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
President Museveni also named several Senior Presidential Advisors, including Hamson Obua, Ruth Nankabirwa, Francis Mwebesa, and Evelyn Anite.
Meanwhile, Kenneth Omona was transferred to the diplomatic service and will serve as Uganda’s ambassador at a station yet to be announced.
The new Cabinet is expected to steer government policy and implementation over the next five years as the administration focuses on economic transformation, infrastructure development, regional integration, and service delivery.
