Former Nakasongola District Woman MP Margaret Komuhangi has passed away in India, sources close to the former legislator confirmed on Thursday. The 54-year-old, a prominent member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), had been hospitalized prior to her death.

During her tenure in the Tenth Parliament, Komuhangi served as Chairperson of the Committee on Gender, earning recognition for her tireless efforts to promote gender equality and social development. She was also a key advocate for women’s rights, leaving a legacy of impactful legislative contributions.

Komuhangi’s political career had its share of challenges. In 2002, her 2001 election victory was annulled by the High Court following a petition by Grace Tubwita Bagaya, a decision later upheld by the Court of Appeal. Despite this setback, she remained a formidable figure within the NRM. In 2021, she secured the party flag for District Woman Representative but lost to Victorious Zawedde in the general election.

Details surrounding the cause of her death are still emerging, and arrangements for her funeral are yet to be announced. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
