Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a provisional squad of 26 players to prepare for the crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G qualifiers against Mozambique and Guinea later this month.

Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put has unveiled a 26-man squad ahead of the team’s upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying doubleheader against Mozambique and Guinea.

The announcement was made during an official press conference at FUFA Complex, Mengo, on Monday, March 10, 2025.

The squad features a mix of foreign-based and locally-based players from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The nine locally-based players include goalkeeper Mutakubwa Joel (Bul FC), defenders Gavin Kizito Mugweri (KCCA FC) and Rojers Torach (Vipers SC), as well as midfielders Abdul Karim Watambala (Vipers SC), Allan Okello (Vipers SC), Enock Ssebagala (NEC FC), Ronald Sekiganda (SC Villa), and Kakande Patrick (SC Villa). Forward Jude Ssemugabi (Kitara FC) has also earned a call-up.

Coach Put confirmed that the squad will be trimmed further before the team departs for Mozambique.

Uganda currently sits fifth in Group G with six points from four games. The Cranes secured victories against Somalia (1-0) and Botswana (1-0) but suffered defeats to Guinea (2-1) and Algeria (1-2).

The team will first take on Mozambique on March 20 in Cairo, Egypt, before returning home to face Guinea at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on March 25.

The squad announcement sets the stage for a crucial phase in Uganda’s qualification campaign as the Cranes look to revive their World Cup hopes.
