Officials from the Department of Refugees in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) are attending a Capacity Building Development Workshop at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala.

The training, organized in collaboration with the Japan International Development Agency (JICA), aims to equip officials with the necessary skills to manage Uganda’s growing refugee population effectively.

During the opening ceremony, the OPM Permanent Secretary’s remarks were delivered by the Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Okello Patrick. He acknowledged the mounting challenges faced by the ministry due to the massive influx of refugees, emphasizing the need for enhanced coordination and resource management.

Mr. Okello urged refugee department staff to uphold ethical workplace conduct, practice effective communication, adhere to the established reporting hierarchy, and foster teamwork. With Uganda hosting one of the largest refugee populations in the world, this workshop is expected to improve service delivery and reinforce the country’s commitment to humanitarian efforts.

As Uganda continues to play a critical role in regional refugee protection, such initiatives are vital in ensuring that policies and operational strategies align with international best practices.
