Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU) has forged a powerful partnership with prominent road safety advocate Joseph Beyanga, affectionately known as Joe Walker, to champion road safety initiatives throughout Uganda.

This collaboration has proven vital in advancing public awareness and fostering responsible road usage, with the aim of significantly reducing road accidents.

In February 2024, CCBU showcased its commitment to road safety by supporting the “Get Home Safe” campaign. This ambitious 12-day trek from Kampala to Fort Portal, led by Joe Walker, aimed to raise critical awareness about road safety challenges along the Kampala-Fort Portal route. The campaign emphasized safe driving, pedestrian vigilance, and the harmonious interaction among different modes of transportation. As part of this initiative, CCBU played an essential role by providing water and refreshing soft drinks, ensuring that participants remained hydrated and energized throughout the journey. Furthermore, the campaign involved extensive community engagement, targeting schools, taxi drivers, boda-boda riders, and local leaders with invaluable education on road safety practices.

Building on the success of the “Get Home Safe” campaign, CCBU continued its dedication to road safety by supporting the fourth edition of the Joe Walker Road Safety Walk, held from February 24 to March 7, 2025. This 340-kilometer trek from Kampala to Gulu further bolstered efforts to elevate awareness about responsible road usage and accident prevention. As the official hydration partner, CCBU provided Rwenzori mineral water and a selection of carbonated soft drinks for participants. The trek also featured a series of outreach programs in schools, engagements with boda-boda operators, collaborations with traffic police, alongside creative initiatives like painting zebra crossings to enhance pedestrian safety and training drivers in responsible driving practices.

CCBU’s commitment to road safety is also reflected in its “Zero is Possible” campaign, launched in 2022, which focuses on educating both employees and the broader public about minimizing road accident fatalities and cultivating a safety-oriented culture.

Through these impactful initiatives, the partnership between Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda and Joe Walker has been instrumental in fostering a nationwide dialogue on road safety, driving community engagement, and advocating for responsible road use in Uganda. This collaboration demonstrates that proactive efforts and community involvement are key to creating a safer road environment for all.
