The media fraternity is reeling from the devastating news of the untimely passing of DJ Bush Baby, born Michael Owori  a trailblazing disc jockey credited with revolutionizing urban music in Uganda.

According to initial reports, friends and colleagues became concerned when Bush Baby was unreachable by phone. “We are treating this as a sudden death pending a postmortem report,” said a senior police officer at the scene. “The studio has been secured, and the body will be taken for further examination to determine the exact cause of death.”

DJ Bush Baby rose to prominence in the late 1990s, becoming a household name through his electrifying sets on Capital FM, where he introduced Ugandan audiences to genres like hip hop, R&B, and urban contemporary music. His influence extended beyond the airwaves  he mentored aspiring DJs, produced music for upcoming talent, and organized urban music events that helped define a generation of Ugandan pop culture.

He later joined media houses such as Urban TV and UBC, where he continued to uplift Uganda’s music scene through platforms that gave visibility to both emerging and established artists. Over the years, Bush Baby became a symbol of creativity, mentorship, and musical excellence.

Tributes have since poured in from artists, media personalities, and fans across the country. Many described him as a humble trailblazer whose passion for music and support for young talent helped shape the face of Uganda’s entertainment industry.

His death marks a profound loss for the creative community and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to influence Ugandan music for years to come.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, pending the postmortem and official communication from the family.
